In Memory of Jerry Shiloff

A Life in Motorsport

The 2024 Empire Hill Climb was run in Jerry’s honor.

Jerry Shiloff was a longtime Detroit Region SCCA member, competitor, steward and volunteer whose connection to the Empire Hill Climb reached across generations. He competed in the original era of the Hill Climb and later became an integral part of bringing the event into its modern life as an SCCA-sanctioned hill climb.

His motorsports story extended far beyond Wilco Road. Jerry competed in SCCA Pro Rally and hill climbs, including Press On Regardless and Empire, helped found Detroit Region SCCA’s RallyCross program, served for years as a road racing steward and Chief Steward, and played a major role in the Detroit Grand Prix.

Jerry and his wife, Mary Shiloff, shared more than 50 years together and became fixtures of the Detroit Region motorsports community. Mary continues that connection to Empire as the Hill Climb’s registrar, helping carry forward a tradition that meant so much to them both.

Jerry helped build the road back to Wilco. In 2024, we climbed it in his name.

Jerry passed away on October 30, 2023. His legacy lives on in the competitors, workers, officials and volunteers he influenced, and in an Empire Hill Climb he helped make possible.
